This site is called claychat, so let's talk clay. What's the best mud out there? The studio I'm at now uses sulfur-free Kochi, and everyone hates it. Why? *Wildly inconsistent pigment that causes crazy marbling. *Crusts over with a hard waxy shell over time, in the oven and on the model. *Poor feathering and blending of new clay onto old clay which makes highlighting a nightmare. Kochi has tried to address these issues, but with limited success.
We tried some Chavant that had the texture of bubble gum and the color of circus peanuts(the candy). Everyone hated it.
Then we tried some of the Marsclay light, (no sulfur) and everyone hated it
The best I've used, hands down, is Marsclay medium(formerly called Faber), never had any issues with it, ever. . I've been begging for my bosses to get us some medium, but I think its sulfur content is preventing that purchase from happening.
What do you guys use?

Hi Shagmaster, I've tried & tested as many clays over the years from Kolb, Faber, Chavant, sulpher free, lights, and some Japanese clay but hands down it's Marsclay medium. Right down to it's operating temp, shrinkage, loading, shut line cuts, adding thin skins, etc, it's so very forgiving.
Regards, Preston.
