Hello All,
Just lately there have been a few interesting articles on the BBC business section of their website regarding the economic situation in Europe especially Germany. As many of you know I have been working in the USA for the last five years and these articles are interesting to me because we European modellers who are out here on contract often feel out of touch with what is happening in the car industry back home. I have received many emails recently from fellow modellers who are seeking work and are asking me if I have any information as to positions available. I would welcome some feedback from you guys back in Europe about the real work situation over there.
The work situation appears to be getting serious worldwide. Although there are a few places here in the states they are snapped up quickly by people waiting to get out here so I think it must be almost impossible to get a contracting job in Europe at the moment.
The best course of action over here is to get a permanent position if you can but everybody is starting to think that way now and it is getting increasingly more difficult to find a company to work for. The digital side of modelling is pushing out a large amount of contractors and the permanent staff are just cleaning up milled models on lower rates. It's a sign of the times and unfortunately I don't think we will ever see the good old days back again when there was plenty of work and we moved every six months to a new contract, we worked hard and played hard and enjoyed every minute of it but now it has almost gone and we have to accept it.
I am passing on all the information on this forum I can get about employment and I hope that if any of you who are in secure positions and know of job opportunities where you are, please share the information.
Good Luck
