Hello All,
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year wherever you are in
the world and good luck on this New Years Day 2006. Unfortunately our industry is getting
more and more difficult to provide positions for as many of us than in previous times,
modern technology is proving to take it's toll on skilled modellers and like so many other
industries we are being replaced by semi skilled workers who have no passion for their art
at all, this is economically inevitable.
As most of you know by now I have recently semi-retired and to be honest I am relieved to
be out of the political tangle that modern studio's have become for uk contractors who are
on long term, in the future I would only ever consider short contracts.
The last few weeks at GM Hollywood USA prior to retiring and returning to the UK were very
difficult for me, not because I was leaving after six years in the USA but by the way I
was treated by lower management before I left. I have been contracting for 27 years and I
have met a lot of very nice people but compared to when I started in 1978 to when I
finished the standard of respect has dropped dramatically to the point where we are now
despised if we have the audacity to purchase houses worth more than our so called
superiors.
This state of affairs has come about by certain individuals that have taken it upon
themselves to assume the role of god and influence the simple minded who sit in the
background Whittling instead of doing what they are paid to do, managing the studio.
Upper management choose to turn a blind eye to the unjust sackings that result from this
gross bad management and the studio loses valuable personell because of one individuals
jealousy of another contractors circumstances.
My advice to anyone who has the very difficult choice of accepting a position offered at
GM Hollywood is this. Make sure you are prepared to seriously KISS ARSE to lower management
and make sure that you convince them that you REALLY RESPECT EVERYTHING THEY SAY AND DO, finally
what ever you do, DO NOT APPEAR WEALTHIER because you will definately be fired by next
Christmas.
