Clay Modeler
Responsible for the sculpting of finished Three Dimensional (3D) scale and full size exterior and interior models of proposed corporate products. Work involves a considerable amount of creativity and initiative. Exercise wide latitude for independent judgment with only general supervision given by management.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Single point contact for design management
• Lead contract modeler team
• Aid in design and engineering problem solving
• Apply clay to armatures
• Set templates to clay
• Take dimensions from model with data acquisition equipment to obtain accurate measurements
• Use clay modeling equipment
• Create 3D clay concept or production models
• Put dimensional information on model for checking or duplication
• Create new and improves existing clay and digital models using templates, points, and other software program data provided by a supervisor or designated leader
• Produce finished model to specifications
• Coordinate input from internal and external customer to better understand customer needs and or perceptions
• Keep abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
• Actively identify new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
Required Skills/Experience
• Familiarity with email communication tool
• Strong interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally sharing ideas, designs and views
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
• Ability to work effectively with business partners to meet established goals and objectives
• Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks/assignments
• Advanced ability to identify issues and problems, generate solutions and choose appropriate alternatives using root cause analysis where problems are more complex.
• High level of problem solving and analytical skills to effectively resolve issues
• Displays attributes of a critical thinker and leverages innovative idea
• Demonstrate aesthetic understanding of form – 9 years’ experience
• Ability to read engineering drawings – 9 years’ experience
• Ability to create finished 3D models – 9 years’ experience
• Thorough understanding and abilities in surface, form and line development – 9 years’ experience
• Position related experience in Automotive or other Creative Industry (Media, Entertainment, Movie) – 9 years
• Position specific experience as a Clay Modeler trained in a European Automotive Design Studio – 9 years
• Areas of expertise include Hard modeling, Automotive engineering, Sculpting, Clay Modeling, Form and Line Development, 3D Models, Surfacing
Required Education
• Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Industrial Design, Engineering, Sculpture, Ceramics or equivalent experience
