Just wondering if anyone has any advice.
I graduated with a first class honours degree in automotive design and am looking for a chance to get into the industry.
I'm currently at a loss as to how to get started as a clay modeller, having thoroughly enjoyed the process of 1:4 scale clay modelling and fibre glass casting at university.
Its definitely a career I would like to pursue and believe I have the skills to be successful, however I don't know where to look next.
Im aware of the big UK companies with design studios like Jaguar Land Rover, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Nissan, Mclaren, etc... however out of these only JLR and Nissan took on graduate clay modellers last year.
There are numerous reports out there of a need for clay modellers as there are shortages in the industry, but I don't see how to get in when most advertised jobs require experience of 5-7 years.
I am aware that 80% of jobs are not advertised so am just posting to see if anyone can suggest any companies to speculatively approach or any places that would be taking on graduate clay modellers in the coming months.
I have also been in contact with numerous specialist recruitment agencies in the UK such as:
Futura Design Ltd
Concept Recourse
Gerrell & Hard
Fircroft
Drive Design
Jonathan Lee Recruitment
and many others...
Out of these, Concept Resource said they no longer take on graduates, Futura were helpful and phoned me a few times to see if they could help but in the end said they only really resource roles for people with 3+ years experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you would be interested in seeing my CV and a selection of my work then please email me at garethhensleyjonesdesign@gmail.com
Thanks.
