I have been reading with interest your comments on agencies as I am having trouble getting into clay modelling. Although I have had previous experience I need further training beffore I am fully proficient.
The response I get from studios Iis always the same, " We don't train people but please phone me when you do get some because we need people"
To make things seem even harder, I am now reading in your comments that there are secret handshakes, passwords and grand wizards!!!!!
I feel I am being forced into using an agency by the studios themselves, is there some secret arrangement?
My point being, if the studios do not invest in new talent for an essential part of the design process ( no computer screen can convey a design as well as a 3D model) then not only will this lead to a detrimental effect on the designs being produced but who is is going to replace the current bunch of contractors and permies when they become old and shaky??

lets stay on the principle of agents.
Over the years they have sent out on contract some of the worst characters any studio has seen. They are more to blame for the "bad apples" than anyone, not only this but after the bad apple has screwed up once they then continue to send them on contracts.
Question Why
Answer Money
They obtain money (please notice I did not use the word earn) for every our these muppets are there regardles of their capabilities or weather there is a mess to clear up.
Agents take a minimum 10%, and we are not in a position to change it.
Even Volke are now using agents.
I personally believe that unless the situation changes some agents may take an opportunity in rate rises to line their pockets rather than passing it on.

Hello,
I am new to clay modelling and I have recently been offered $23.50 with $4.50 per diem which I think is a great rate as I was earning $19 before. What do you all think. Thanks.

Discussing rates is a bit of a no-no on this site. It is considered unprofessional.
